Emirates to operate 34 A380s to UK weekly

Recently, UAE has joined UK's travel corridor list, the Dubai based luxurious airline "Emirates" is planning to operate 34 weekly flights using its iconic aircraft A380 as a part of Emirates post crisis operations.

In the year 2020, A380 were seldom seen in the skies. As for the time being, only three passenger services operated by A380 compared to 102 services at the same time last year. Most of A380 global fleet is either grounded, stored or retired. Only Emirates now operates a handful of A380s. Now Emirates is in the process of increasing the number of services using the jumbo jet.

As of Dec. 1st, Emirates will significantly increase the number of its Airbus A380 operations to UK up to 34 weekly flight. The majority of those flights will be operated to Heathrow, London. At the moment, Heathrow receives two daily A380 flights and one Boeing 777 flight. Starting Nov. 27th, Heathrow will be served by four daily A380 flights.

Currently, Emirates operates eight weekly flights to Manchester. Starting Dec. 1st, the number will be increased to ten weekly flights in which six will be operated by A380's.

As for non-A380's services to UK, it will also witness a major increase. As of Nov. 27th, Emirates will increase its Boeing 777 flight to Birmingham and Glasgow will follow in Dec. 1st.

Emirates has always seen the United Kingdom as a special profitable market. Before the current crisis, more than a quarter of the carrier’s capacity was directed to the country. As London only had daily services to three different airports. In September 2019, the airline saw 56% of its European profits coming from United Kingdom.

Now the airline found itself in a unique position where United Arab Emirates became a travel corridor with the United Kingdom. It means that UK travelers can visit the UAE without being quarantined when they're back. Passengers flying to UAE will need to take a PCR test 96 hours ahead of their flight or a test upon arrival in the country.
